Drive More Donations with Lyft’s Drive to Donate

Rideshare apps are becoming much more prevalent. Gone are the days of hailing a taxi cab speeding down the road and watching as a meter keeps adding pennies to your fare as you sit in traffic. Yet with the ever-changing world of technology, even the top rideshare companies must fight to remain relevant.

 

Companies continue to grow and innovate when it comes to their philanthropic and community relationships, and rideshare companies are doing the same. Whether they’re making hefty donations to notable charities, letting riders round up their fares and donate the difference to charity, partnering with Goodwill to haul donations, or partnering with a local animal shelter for office puppy play time, these companies are making their community relationships known.

 

Lyft, a rideshare app founded in June 2012, launched a program that allows nonprofits to recruit drivers to drive on behalf of their organization. The driving team can be composed of employees of the organization, volunteers, friends, or community members who are looking for a creative way to support the organization.

 

Drive to Donate campaigns last for a total of four weeks. Lyft provides a unique referral code that allows drivers to join the team and start picking up passengers (once approved). 50 percent of each fare is paid to the driver and the other 50 percent goes directly to the organization. Plus, if the driver completes 25 rides during the campaign, they earn a $100 bonus that is matched in a donation to your organization.

 

There are certain requirements that drivers must meet to be able to drive with Lyft. Drivers must be at least 21 years old, own an iPhone or Android phone, and must complete a national and county background check. Their car must also have four external door handles and five total seatbelts. Some states have additional requirements, which you can learn more about here.

 

Organizations must complete an application for approval. Once the application is accepted, Lyft will contact you to get your campaign set up.
