Fishing and Hunting Organizations [List]

When considering the types of charities an often overlooked subgroup of Animal Charities is the Hunting and Fishing Organizations.  These are primarily member based organizations that seek to serve as advocacy groups for sportsmen (hunters, trappers, or fishermen). Game and habitat conservation typically are part of the missions of hunting and fishing organizations as well, as it is important to ensure that there remain healthy populations of game for future generations.  There are a couple of broad-based fishing and hunting organizations but you will notice that most tend to specialize around a particular game type.

suggest adding Mule Deer Foundation to your list of top hunting supported non-profits. Great group, high percent towards mission and mule deer are one of the most vulnerable hunting species today. – Cheers, Kenn

Great list, Craig! You might want to check out Backcountry Hunters and Anglers at They are a fine organization, adding chapters nationwide and furthering conservation efforts. Nice Backcountry Journal they publish for members. The Sportmen’s Voice . . . Take care and thanks! Nat

Hello. I live in southern Minnesota and just chaperoned field trip with my son today was in 4th grade. I found most of the children had no experience walking through the woods let alone hunting or fishing. I live in that town where this three great fishing lakes within a quarter-mile from my door and I live on a very busy highway that comes through town. my question is is there any organizations or how one would get started to teach these kids to hunt and fish?I would like to start something cuz I enjoy teaching kids and I believe it things they should learn. things like respecting firearms if you shoot it you eat itand that catching fish isn’t the only fun part but the cleaning I’m cooking them and eating them is just as rewarding. I think if we don’t start teaching our children the things we were taught it’s going to disappear. I got stories out of these kids telling me how their dads used to hunt but they don’t anymore. everyone’s too caught up in the rat race of life. too busy to take the kids hunting and fishing but I bet their cell phone gets put to use plenty. anyhow I just was looking for any ideas or advice on how to get something going I feel that would be my part in being a positive member of society and it would just make me feel good to do so. Thanks.
