Champions of Diversity: Why Realistic Inclusion Initiatives are Vital in Nonprofits

2019-08-10T22:04:12-04:00

To borrow a quote from columnist and nonprofit leader Anika Rahman, “Non-profits are our conscience.” As science comes to support what we already knew, that diversity begets innovation and creativity, many nonprofit organizations find themselves in a bind when it comes to implementing and maintaining consistent, effective diversity, inclusion, and equity (DI&E) initiatives. Let’s skip the entire lesson on the differences between these three processes and jump straight to the point of inclusion, which is necessary before diverse employees can extract genuine equity from their organizational experience.   Now, back to the point of conscience. The majority of nonprofits exist to [...]

Your Guide to #GivingTuesday

2019-07-23T13:18:11-04:00

You’re sitting in your office on November 21st. You’re fielding texts from your mom about what time your flight home lands. At the very moment you begin to map out your Turkey Day plate real estate (mashed potatoes at 3:00, green beans at 9:00, please), you scroll across a teaser for a #GivingTuesday donation match a partner organization has organized and that feeling sinks in. You missed the #GivingTuesday boat. Again. #sad That was 2016. And here we are in 2017… the #GivingTuesday planning you vowed to map out in August has gone by the way of your hydration and decluttering [...]

MEGA list of Nonprofit Mission Statements

2019-06-17T17:01:52-04:00

We just released a list of 50 mission statements selected from the top top 100 nonprofits (based on a series of web, social, and financial metrics). Many nonprofit mission statements succumb to an over use of words in general, but especially jargon.  Good mission statements should be clear, memorable, concise. Some might also add “inspring” do the list of descriptors. I don’t altogether disagree, but I find that including this as an upfront criteria often ends up with a frankenstein that is part mission statement, part vision statement, and almost always too long. Be sure to check out our Guide to Creating Mission Statements for more. Details on [...]

2019-06-13T09:34:02-04:00

This post was originally published on Firefly Partner's blog, and is being shared with their permission. If the title of this blog post resonates with you, you have lots of company. Most nonprofit organizations have a degree of dissatisfaction with their online engagement tool – primarily because there is no perfect platform.  Advocacy, email marketing, events, fundraising, eCommerce, and CRM are all fairly standard components of an online engagement program at most organizations.  These elements are really critical to the success and core functions of the modern nonprofit.  You just want to provide a great experience for your supporters and use [...]

7 Areas of Focus to Achieving Transparency, Accountability, and High Performance

2019-06-08T04:18:50-04:00

Nonprofit organizations do so many things really well:  First of all…they impact lives! Every. Single. Day.  The paid staff and leadership for nonprofits work tirelessly long hours and often get paid much less than they could if they worked in the private or corporate sector.  Or, maybe they’re a volunteer board member serving faithfully.  Either way, all involved give liberally of who they are for the mission. For nonprofits to break free of traditional constraints and transform into high-performing, high-growth organizations, there is a need to clearly define what limits growth and become intentional with solutions to effectively expand these limits.  [...]

New Nonprofit Technology? Have a plan!

2019-05-06T19:07:16-04:00

Tuesday’s #AppleEvent brought great news – two new iPhone models, the new Apple Watch and the Apple Pay. These much-anticipated releases didn’t fail to deliver great new bells and whistles, and with the Apple Watch, a completely new mobile technology with features that haven’t been grappled with.   Apple is known for its innovation and quality products. But they’re also the source of frustration for many companies who’ve got to shell out cash every time there’s a system update to make sure their apps are compatible.   It seems like there’s something new out every single month. And while it’s [...]

2019-04-09T20:16:48-04:00

The case for nonprofit-company partnerships for Win-Win-Win Fundraising By Randall Anderson, Chief Operating Officer at Listen Up Español   Is it really more rewarding to give than to receive? Many of us know how great it feels when we donate to a cause that is dear to our hearts. It is also known that gift-matching programs have been around for many years and are commonly used as a recruiting tool for businesses. However, the connection between corporate donations and employee performance is not as widely known. At Listen Up Español we have proven that the connection between being socially conscious and [...]
